Grand Tour of the City of Sassi
After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, your day will continue with the discovery of the Sassi of Matera with a complete 3-hour tour with the following steps:
- Departure from Piazza Vittorio Veneto with an introduction about the UNESCO World Heritage city.
- Walking towards the historic center, you will see the beautiful Apulian Romanesque church of San Giovanni Battista.
- The tour will continue with a visit to the Casa Cava, a hypogeal environment formerly used as a tuff quarry, now used as an auditorium and convention center after an exceptional restoration work.
- Later, to the Rione Sasso Barisano, you will visit the Rupestrian Church of Sant'Antonio Abate.
- The tour will continue to the Sasso Caveoso to visit a typically furnished cave house.
- On the way, you will cross Via Madonna delle Virtù, the beautiful street on the edge of the canyon, passing through Porta Pistola ("Pert P'stèl" in the dialect of Matera)
- Short stop with the guide in Piazza San Pietro Caveoso
- Walk along Via Bruno Buozzi
- The next visit is at Madonna delle Grazie, another rupestrian religious place.
- You will walk through the main street of the modern part of the city where you will see the Baroque Church of Purgatory (Chiesa del Purgatorio)
- Then, you will reach Piazza San Francesco d'Assisi where you will visit the church dedicated to this Saint
- The tour will continue to Piazza del Sedile, the seat of Parliament during the Kingdom of Naples domination.
- The tour will end with a visit to the wonderful Apulian Romanesque Cathedral overlooking the highest part of the city

Visiting the Palombaro Lungo
The largest water tank in Matera, excavated in the central Piazza Vittorio Veneto, is part, together with the Rupestrian Church of Santo Spirito, of the Hypogea complex in the same square.
Murgia Natural Park and Park of the Rupestrian Churches Tour
The tour to the Park of the Rupestrian Churches is a unique and special experience, involving adults and children. Throughout the tour, you can immerse yourself in the history of this place: from prehistory to the Bronze Age, until the Middle Ages. Along the way, you will see an incomparable scene, the sunset light illuminating the Sassi of Matera.
- Departure with a Shuttle in via A. Volta;
- Arrival at the Murgia Natural Park, near Masseria Radogna;
- You will visit the Monumental Tomb located in the former Neolithic entrenched village;
- Walk along the Gravina ridge;

Cripta del Peccato Originale (Crypt of Original Sin)
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, you will reach the Cripta del Peccato Originale: an exceptional oratory, which represents one of the oldest testimonies of rock art in Southern Italy. At the end of the guided tour there will be time for a free lunch.
Visiting Montescaglioso
After lunch, you will discover with a guided tour the ancient village of Montescaglioso, one of Italy's most beautiful villages and city of monasteries: the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo dates back to around the middle of the 11th century, when Benedictine monastic communities replaced the religious communities of Greek origin in many areas. In the late Middle Ages, it fell into disgrace, so much so that it had to be rebuilt at the end of the 15th century. The central core of the abbey is constituted by the eastern cloister and the church, rebuilt by the Benedictine Congregation of St Justina of Padua. Over the centuries, the intervention of monks gradually added new construction elements to the original building; just like the beautiful colonnade, several new factories and wonderful cycles of frescoes painted by the most important artists of Basilicata. In 1784, when the monks abandoned the abbey and moved to Lecce, it lost part of its works of art, library, and archive. In the early 19th century, the monastery became the property of the municipality.
After the tour, dinner is free before returning to the hotel for an overnight stay.
